I would not recommend this card for use as your primary TV and/or even for recording video. Even with my Intel Core2 Extreme and 8GB of 800MHz RAM, this card produces choppy video. It may not be annoying to some, but it is to me. I would recommend getting an external USB device for a TV tuner.

Fantastic resolution in the DVD-high-quality mode, and the onboard-processor frees up your CPU to do other things, like surf the web, while you’re recording shows. The included software is junk — I get jittery video on occasion and sometimes no sound with their software. I’d recommend using it with Windows Media Center, or Beyond TV 4.0 software if you don’t own Media Center. I plan to buy another card so I can record two shows at once.

The product works flawlessly. I have it installed in an old PIII w/512 MB RAM and I have no problems at all. I only wish I had researched a little further and found out that the newer 150 model has exactly the same functionality for less $$.

The Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 has been working steadily for several months.
I tried Plextor M402U and ADS Tech USB hardware encoder boxes. They both failed in 2 days. I have a Novatech (software conversion) USB box. Any Software converter will be SLOW. The Novatech requires conversion to MPG after capture so i actually only use it to take snapshots.
I have a disk partition i use for capturing..editing.. then write it to DVD.. then delete the files, thus no need to defrag all the time. The programs write in streams : very fast but makes for Very fragmented drives.
Read all the other reviews. The included software works for me. (DO go to the web site and download the latest drivers..programs, to avoid the WinDVD conflict) I looked at other programs… I guess it is all in what you want to do with it.
I gave it 5 stars, in truth one of the >$1000 converters would deserve the 5 stars, but considering the price difference, you get what you pay for.
